A Level Chemistry extends students’ knowledge of the subjects studied at GCSE. Familiar topics such as atomic structure, bonding, rates of reaction, mole calculations and organic chemistry. You will also study new topics on energy changes, instrumental analysis and entropy.
The course is designed to be a practical experience with activities that will consolidate learning of the main aspects of Chemistry, equipping students with the skills required to study science at a higher level. It is suitable for students who like being able to explain how things work, why things occur and enjoy making the science happen, through creating new compounds in the practical work. Students will also need to enjoy maths, as there are many calculations in A Level Chemistry.
Assessment in the course: 100% External Examination. Practical endorsement reported separately.
Students need to have achieved a minimum of 6 grades 5-9 incl. English and Maths and should be aiming to achieve a minimum grade 6 in GCSE Sciences.
