This course allows students to develop their ability to appreciate the visual world and respond in a personal and creative way. Students are encouraged to develop their own personal interests, whilst having the opportunity to develop their experiences and knowledge of materials, practices and technologies in a variety of Fine Art disciplines.
Students with a particular interest in art history and contemporary art are suited to this course. To be successful in this subject students require: an aesthetic eye; the ability to work independently and as part of a team; organisational, imaginative and creative skills and strong presentation ability. The course naturally leads to the possibility of study at a higher level at college or university and opens the door to many creative career pathways.
Assessment in the course: AS Art, the one-year course, equates to 60% coursework portfolio and 40% externally set assignment. A2 Art, taught over 2 years, is examined by 60% personal investigation with a 2000-3000 word critical analysis and 40% externally set assignment.
Students need to have achieved a minimum of 6 grades 5-9 incl. English and Maths and should be aiming to achieve a minimum grade 6 or equivalent in an Art related subject.
