CCHS Learning Support

The Learning Support Department is run in line with the SEN Code of Practice and offers support and advice to students with learning difficulties and to their families. Whilst recognising that 'all teachers are teachers of pupils with Special Educational Needs' we do withdraw those students with Educational Healthcare Plans to put individually tailored programmes into place - ranging from structured literacy and numeracy support to reading recovery and mentoring sessions.

Staff in the department are committed to promoting inclusion and independent learning alongside classroom support to facilitate access of a mainstream curriculum.

Students' learning difficulties are identified through close liaison with our feeder primary schools and through testing by departmental staff and outside professionals. SEN Passports are produced, up-dated and managed by departmental staff and close contact is maintained with parents as we firmly believe that, by working together, your children can achieve more.

CCHS Inclusion Garden Grant

CCHS Inclusion Garden GrantLast year, our Foundation students embarked on a special project to convert a small area adjacent to the Inclusion Hub into a small allotment. The students built plastic poly-tunnel greenhouses, created raised beds and planted numerous seeds. They then spent many hours looking after and watering their seedlings, before planting them outside. They grew a fantastic array of vegetables from seeds including tomatoes, radishes, beetroot, leeks, lettuce, runner beans and numerous other plants.
We are delighted to announce that, due to the enthusiasm of the students and staff the Inclusion Garden has been boosted with a Local School Nature Grant, by Learning through Landscapes. Pupils played an important role in applying for the grant and selected equipment that they felt would benefit their peers. The team were delighted to receive £500 worth of gardening equipment, to add to their stock of tools, and free training sessions to support our Foundation teachers in delivering maths lessons outside. This will help encourage the students to use mathematical thinking whilst they are engaged in the Inclusion Hub gardening programme.
