Sport at Clacton County High School

This has been a very exciting period for the PE team. We have had a number of successes and events that I and the PE team are extremely proud of.

Once again, we delivered an outstanding set of results from last year’s GCSE students. The students achieved 98% A*-C on the GCSE course, with 45% achieving A’s and A*s, and 95% A*-C on the Sport BTEC course, with 40% achieving Distinction and Distinction*. This meant that 166 students left KS4 with a qualification in PE, surpassing last year’s success. Huge credit must go to the students and the staff for their hard work and dedication to achievement. The current Year 11 students now have a tough act to follow their success.

We also welcomed a new set of enthusiastic Year 7 students in September, who have already shown a keen interest in sport and PE at the school. In the opening term, we have seen some outstanding potential in PE lessons and numbers at Extra Curricular Clubs are extremely high. Students have been attending rugby, netball, and basketball clubs, although we would always welcome more and more members. Parents are reminded that clubs are completely free and all are welcome. Shortly we will be competing in fixtures against local schools. If parents wish to watch, they are reminded to check in with reception first. Over a hundred Year 7’s also took part in a Colour Run in October to celebrate their first half term in the school, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

On the extra-curricular side, we have upcoming fixtures against Harwich, Clacton Coastal Academy, Colne, Tendring and Manningtree in Rugby and Netball. Please check the fixtures page for details on times and dates. In football, the year has started well with 2 wins out of 2. The year 8 boys beat Alec Hunter 6-2 and year 11 boys beat Thurstable 1-0 to make it through to the next round of the Essex Cup. Congratulations to those teams, and we hope for lots of success this year.
