Futures Academy Launch

Futures Academy Launch
This week saw the launch of an amazing new opportunity for twelve of our Year 10 students – a seven-week work experience opportunity which combines mentoring sessions with local business people, as well as workplace visits. Along with the sessions in school, the group will be visiting Tiptree Jams, Direct Solutions Print & Design in Clacton, the Colchester Foodbank and UK Power Networks.
Futures Academy Launch
The course is organised in association with the Futures Academy and started with an activity designed to get the groups talking and working together. Each team had to build a structure of balloons, with a different characteristic of a good employee written on each of them.

Following her success at the Everywoman in Technology Awards back in March, Year 11 Design & Technology student, Laurelin Chase, has recently been shortlisted as a finalist in the Technology, Design and Innovation (TDI) Challenge. Laurelin’s GCSE Design Technology Coursework was evaluated by a panel of judges and she is one of twenty students to be invited to attend the TDI Challenge National Final hosted at Yamazaki Mazak's European Technology Centre in Worcester. Well done again Laurelin!

Year 7 Rap and Poetry Concert

Year 7 Rap and Poetry Concert
Students from three Year 7 classes took to the stage in their final English lesson of the half term to perform a collection of rap songs and performance poems. The concert, run by literacy co-ordinator Miss Robinson, marked the end of their ‘Rap to Slam to Verse’ poetry unit where students explored the origins of rap and the similarities between songs and poetry, considering aspects of both content and delivery.
Year 7 Rap and Poetry Concert The concert included a solo performance from Callum Hill, taking to the stage to deliver his rendition of Post Malone’s ‘Sunflower’ and a musical performance of the Sugar Hill Gang’s ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ by students from 7x2 accompanied by Maka, rapping his way through all 15 minutes of the song! It was a delight to see our students so enthused and confident performing in front of their peers! Well done to them all.
