Spring Term 2019

Helping Reduce Exam Stress

The imminent start to the annual exam season heralds a full schedule of examinations for our upper school students. Over the coming weeks they will be very busy revising and preparing. This can be a very stressful time for some students and their families and, with this in mind, we held an inaugural Exam Management session last week.
Helping Reduce Exam Stress
The event was one of our ongoing Family Focus evenings and looked at revision ideas, exam advice, stress management and support. The two well-attended sessions were organised by Mrs Roberts, our student Health and Well-being Co-ordinator, and supported by nurses from the NHS.

Feedback was extremely positive from parents, commenting on how informative the sessions were and that they had helped open up conversations with their children, which they may not otherwise have had. Many said that they would be continuing discussions at home and felt more engaged with their children ahead of their exams. Suggestions for additional sessions were also put forward; including looking at exam timetables, exam rules, revision sessions and how examinations were conducted. Mrs Roberts will be considering these for a future session. Thank you to all those parents and students who attended and we hope that all gained some useful tips.

Spring Term Ends Next Friday

The end of the spring term is now just a week away!
We finish for the Easter holiday next Friday, 5th April after Lesson 3, at 12.55pm.
Clouds Restaurant will only be open at break time next Friday. Free School Meal students need to use their meal ticket during the morning break.
Y.E.SAs always, the last day of term will be a non-uniform day in aid of charity. This term we are supporting ‘Y.E.S’ - the Colchester and Tendring Youth Enquiry Service. The charity has been supporting young people in our community for over 30 years, with counselling services, mediation, teen pregnancy, early family support and homelessness prevention. Every pound raised will help provide 1-to-1 counselling intervention for a young person in need.
Students pay for the privilege of not wearing school uniform for the day and we suggest a £1 donation.
We will return to school for the start of the summer term on Tuesday, 23rd April, at 8.45am.

County SEND Strategy Under Review

Essex County Council has embarked upon a programme to help improve the outcomes and life experience for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). As part of their review, to enhance their provision of services, they are encouraging parents of children with special educational needs to submit their views on the local SEND provision.
