World Book Day

Last Thursday, we helped celebrate a love of reading through World Book Day – the annual focus helps highlight the importance of authors, illustrators, books in general; fact or fiction, and, most importantly, is a celebration of just reading – you can still visit www.worldbookday.com for competitions and activities.
World Book Day
Every year our English department, and numerous other staff, dress up as book characters and, once again, they did not disappoint!

Family Focus – Exam Management

The exam period can be challenging for some students and their families. As a school, we are continually seeking opportunities to provide support and helpful strategies to assist during exam periods. With this in mind, we are holding a special Family Focus Exam Management event on Thursday 21st March, targeted at students in Years 10 and 11 and their parents. There are two sessions available – 3.30pm to 4.30pm and 4.45pm to 5.45pm (although spaces in the 2nd session are now limited.) Full details and reply slip are contained in a letter available to download.
We look forward to seeing you next Thursday!

Football Camp – Easter 2019

Colchester United Football Club are offering our students the opportunity to take part in a free holiday programme, based at the school, from Monday 8th to Friday 12th April during the first week of the Easter Break. This will involve entertaining activities aimed at promoting physical fitness for children of varying fitness and ability. There will be something for everyone!
Football Camp – Easter 2019The event is organised by Colchester United’s Football in the Community programme and is not a school activity, although the ethos of fitness for everyone and worthwhile holiday activities, are fully supported by the school.
They will be offering:
• A free activity week – 9.30am to 2.00pm each day
• Breakfast and Lunch.
• Fun enrichment activities on the CCHS school site.
• Skilled coaches.
• Most of all - lots of fun and enjoyment!
Interested students can collect a letter from the school reception or speak to Mr Sean Duffy.

CCHS Rugby Season – Part 2

We focused on the Year 7 and 8 teams in last week’s Parent News, so it is only fair that we feature our other teams this week.
CCHS Rugby Season – Part 2
Due to a number of cancelled matches, our Year 9 team (pictured above) has only managed to play one fixture so far this season. Last week, they faced Tendring Technology College but struggled to settle into their first match, especially against a strong side. They still have the rest of their fixtures to play, and plenty of opportunity to turn their fortunes around.
CCHS Rugby Season – Part 2
The Under 16 team (pictured above) also faced a strong Tendring side last week. They played some outstanding rugby and were unfortunate not to force the draw, despite scoring some fantastic tries in the later stages of the game. This week the story was completely different when they played Colne Community College, winning by 33 points.
CCHS Rugby Season – Part 2
The Year 7 match against the Colne resulted in a 50-5 win with a disappointing 20-30 defeat for the Year 8’s, who narrowly missed scoring a number of tries. Next week our rugby teams have fixtures against Clacton Coastal Academy. Good luck to them all!
