PROUD – PSHEE Learning 4

PROUD – PSHEE Learning 4PROUD – PSHEE Learning 4Our fourth PROUD day of this academic year took place last week, with a focus on topics linked to our PROUD values and the PSHEE curriculum.
Year 7 students looked at how to develop critical thinking, to apply reasoning and logic to unfamiliar ideas, opinions and to analyse and interpret situations in an open-minded way. The lesson concluded with solving carefully worded conundrums linked to the development of critical thinking skills. Try to solve for yourself one of the puzzles they tackled >>
Year 8 focussed on our PROUD Pledges programme, which aims to motivate students to complete ten PROUD pledges each year through participation in a range of activities. Currently, Year 8 are working on the Bronze Award, and last week, students learnt how to record their evidence; they looked at activities accomplished so far and then added the evidence to their portfolios. There was also an opportunity to research and plan their next Pledges assignments.
Both Year 9 and 10 spent their PROUD session exploring the importance of tolerance, particularly important in a multi-faith and diverse population such as the UK.  Students learnt the value of taking into consideration the opinions of others, and how being respectful, accepting and acknowledging that all are equal, is so important in ensuring the success of a modern society, such as ours.
Our Year 11 students are now embarking on their mock GCSE exams and we welcomed external speakers from Elevate. Ten presenters delivered a special study skills workshop to each of our Year 11 form groups, helping students with exam preparation techniques. The Elevate programme is renowned for achieving behavioural change amongst students, allowing them to, not only understand how they need to do prepare for exams, but actually apply the study skills that they have learnt. We hope that our Year 11 students found the sessions engaging and will make full use of the work booklets, that they completed during the workshop, to remind them how to prepare for and tackle each exam they sit over the coming years.
