Non-Pupil Day Tomorrow – Friday, 27th November

As tomorrow is one of our five statutory non-pupil days, Weekly News is published a day early this week.
Students are not required to be in school tomorrow. Year 11 students have mocks coming up in a few weeks and should utilise the extra time to revise for these exams.

Sixth Formers for the Day

On Tuesday, our Year 11 students had the opportunity to lead the life of a sixth form student and spent the day at our new Sigma Sixth College. They dressed as sixth form students in smart, casual clothes, had the opportunity to tour the fantastic facilities and relaxed in the spacious social and restaurant areas during their breaks. In order to help them decide which subjects they want to study in the Sixth Form from next September, they attended some typical A Level lessons to see how the study differs from GCSE courses; other students attended lectures about the other further education options open to them.

In science the focus was on allowing students to look at the type of experiments that are undertaken in the sixth form whilst prospective sports students were put through their paces, as part of a typical practical lesson. The taster day opened the eyes of our Year 11 students to the many advantages of studying at our sixth form college, not only in the variety of subject areas and options available to them, but the support, guidance and advice on offer from the Sigma Sixth team and their subject teachers. Over the coming weeks, our Year 11 students will each have a one-to-one interview with one of our advisers to ascertain their further education plans and to complete their application to Sigma Sixth; they do not need to complete an online application which is for external applicants.
Calling all Sixth Form students

Calling all Sixth Form students

As annual careers and university fairs are currently suspended, Goldsmiths, University of London are working with the University of Reading and six other universities to offer an alternative online event.
‘Finding the Right University for You’ is a virtual fair, taking place next Thursday, 3rd December, from 6 to 7pm. The event is designed for Year 12 students and their parents, along with any Year 13 students who are still working on their UCAS choices.
The broadcast will feature short talks from numerous universities. During the presentations, students and parents will be able to put questions to university staff and student ambassadors, from each institution, via text-based and video chat. The event is being hosted on GoToWebinar, a free, web-based platform that is intuitive and easy to use. Full further information, a full list of participating universities and to sign up click here.

A Taste of Christmas

A Taste of ChristmasIn the lead up to Christmas, although we may not be able to organise the usual Christmas activities in school, we still feel that it is important to promote some fun and festive extra-curricular activities. Although there will not be a Christmas concert this year, our Vocational and Performance team have organised a festive Lip Sync Competition instead!
To take part in the competition, students from across all year groups are invited to create a short video lasting between 45-60 seconds in which they are lip-syncing to their favourite Christmas song; household bubbles and family pets are also invited to join in the fun! The only condition is that everyone wears Christmas jumpers, hats or any sparkling accessories! Full details and instructions are available HERE – The closing date for submissions is Monday 7th December @ 5pm
