Sigma Science Photography Competition

Sigma Science Photography CompetitionCongratulations to Year 8 student, Ronnie Edwards, whose picture was selected as the school’s winning entry for this years’ Sigma Science photography contest.
The competition was launched back in the spring term, before the school closure, but the closing date was extended to the start of this term. The annual competition challenges students to take a photo that links to any aspect of science. Ronnie took a stunning early morning shot from the shoreline of the sun rising over the sea during the summer. He won an Amazon gift voucher and a place in the final, with the winning entries from the Sigma Trust secondary schools; eventually won by from St Helena’s school in Colchester. Well done to all of our students who entered – a selection of their entries are pictured above.

Sports Clubs to Start – Year 7 & 8

A number of our sports clubs will start after half-term.
Year 7 clubs will take place after school on Tuesdays, with Year 8 clubs after school on Wednesdays.
On both days, students will have the opportunity to join one of the clubs on offer - Football (boys and girls), Swimming, Table Tennis or Rock Climbing. Students can attend a single club for the whole half-term up to Christmas and each activity will be limited on numbers.
To give all our students an equal opportunity to enrol, the online club sign-up forms will open at 5pm on Thursday 15th October, on a first come first served basis. Before this time, the links will state that the form is no longer taking responses – please wait until the sign-up forms open.
Year 7 Sign-Up – Opens @ 5pm Thurs 15th Oct
Please select a 1st choice and a 2nd choice club, in the event that the first choice club is full.
Year 8 Sign-Up – Opens @ 5pm Thurs 15th Oct
We hope to open up our sports clubs to other year groups in the Spring Term.

Now Wilf’s drawing has been seen by millions of Bale’s followers and received some fantastic reviews and comments.

Daily Maths Challenge - OctoberDaily Maths Challenge - October

This month’s Maths Calendars are now available to download from our Revision Microsite. Each month students can access a month’s worth of daily questions to help them improve their maths skills. There are four calendars to choose from, depending upon ability, and students are encouraged to tackle the more advanced calendars. Lower years can access the Numeracy Calendar and also attempt the Foundation Calendar questions. Older students can download a Crossover Calendar, with intermediate questions to stretch learning from foundation towards the higher level, as well as challenging themselves with the questions contained on the Higher Calendar.
