Autumn Term Football Round-Up

This year the coastal schools’ rugby season has moved to the start of the spring term, swapping places with the football season. The change has allowed our footballers an opportunity to get back into training ahead of the first games in the Essex FA school cup competitions.
Autumn Term Football Round-UpYear 7 Boys Football – In their first season playing together as the new CCHS team, the large squad started their secondary school career playing well and are starting to gel as a team. In one of their fixtures, against the Colne Community, the squad fielded an A and B-team. They finished their first season with a single draw to their credit to finish mid-table, so did not progress to the final this year.
Our Year 8, 9 and 10 boys’ football teams, continued to build on their success from last season, all finishing top of their respect Coastal Schools’ League and a place in the league finals.
Autumn Term Football Round-UpThe Year 8’s drew their opening match against Manningtree and followed that with three straight wins against Harwich, Tendring and Colne. They also progressed through to the 1st Round of the Essex Cup, after beating Stanway in the Preliminary Round; unfortunately, they were unlucky to lose to Philip Morant, thwarting their progression to Round 2.
The Year 9 boys won all their Coastal matches with victories against Tendring, Colne and Harwich. They then went on to be crowned Coastal Champions in the league final against Colne Community School at Clacton FC this week, winning 3-0.
Autumn Term Football Round-UpIn their Under 14 Essex Cup 1st Round match, the team were drawn away against the Thurstable School. After a nail-biting match, the 3-3 score line took the game to penalties, which the Year 9 boys narrowly lost 4-3.
The Year 10 team’s season followed a similar course, with the boys winning all three of the games they played; they also progressed to this week’s coastal finals. The game was played in atrocious conditions on Monday evening and the boys worked exceedingly hard to claw back a 2-goal deficit to draw the game 2-2 and were crowned champions after narrowly winning the penalty shoot-out, 6 goals to 5.
Autumn Term Football Round-Up
The Year 11 Footballers finished their school career having played all five of their league games, the only CCHS team to do so this season. They managed to clock up two resounding wins from their five matches this season and showed some tremendous resilience as they succumbed to three defeats.
Well done to all of our football teams for a great season; the Year 8 team still have their coastal final to play against Manningtree, which was postponed, for a second time, due to a waterlogged pitch. Next week we will bring you a round-up of the action from the girls’ football and netball matches this term. Photos of all our sports teams in action are available on our photos webpage.
