CCHS Ofsted Inspection

CCHS Ofsted InspectionAfter their visit back in January, Ofsted reported that “CCHS is improving towards being an outstanding school”, recommending that we undergo a full inspection.
Last week we welcomed five Ofsted inspectors to our school for a two-day Section 5 inspection. It is always a pleasure to ‘showcase’ to visitors what we do at CCHS day in and day out.
The inspectors met with many students and visited a wide range of lessons, across all of the different subject areas, to see the great teaching and learning that goes on at our school.
It will be some weeks before we receive the official outcome and the report is published. We are sure that the report will reflect the improvements we have made at CCHS since our last full inspection in March 2013. When we receive the official notification from Ofsted, we will let you know straightaway.

England Netball Awards 2018

Congratulations to CCHS PE Teacher, Laura Townsend, who was recently crowned ‘Netball Teacher of the Year’ at the Netball England Vitality Goalden Globe Awards, in Nottingham. Laura was nominated by the Essex Netball Development officer and won the South East Region title, back in June, before going forward to the National final. Due to the lack of netball provision locally for youngsters to play outside of school, Laura helped set up Tendring Netball club three years ago.
England Netball Awards 2018She has been instrumental in the quality of the netball tuition being delivered at CCHS and has encouraged numerous netballers to join the club and play competitively outside of school. Last year, Laura managed the ‘Tendring Sparks’ AKA our Year 11 netball team, who are all members of the Tendring club. They played in the adult Colchester Netball League and finished a very respectable 7th place in division 6 – quite an achievement for 15/16 year olds playing against seasoned adult players! Laura has also enabled six of our older girls to become beginner umpires and coaches to help pass down their experiences to the young girls playing in our school teams, as well as the local club.

Police Cadet of the Year

Police Cadet of the YearWe are delighted that one of our Year 10 students Mia, has won the Essex Police Cadet of the Year award for the Tendring District. Steve Kavanagh, Chief Constable of Essex Police, presented the award at the annual cadet parade in Chelmsford. Congratulations to another Year 10 student, Daniel Scott, who is also a Tendring Police Cadet. He attended the special recognition day with Mia and all the other Essex Police Cadets, from across the ten districts. The annual cadet day gives the aspiring police officers an opportunity to see the work of the various police units close up, including demonstrations from the firearms unit, riot control, police dog handling and a chance to view the latest technology being utilised by the Essex Force

CCHS Mind Matters

CCHS Mind MattersThis year we have launched a new initiative ‘The Mind Matters Team’, a group of students and teachers who have been trained as mental health mentors. The team will be available to listen and support students who are finding everyday life difficult. The team is located in Room J6, where Mrs Roberts is available to listen and support every Wednesday lunchtime. Our young mentors will also be available at the same time if students wish to talk to one of their peers instead. The team aims to encourage everyone to be more open about mental health and eradicate the stigma that is attached to the subject. The team are now planning to train up more students to become mental health mentors, as they are aware that this has become a growing issue.
