School Improvement Plan Priorities 2009/2010
The following are the key areas for development in this year’s School Improvement Plan.
Those targets shown in blue relate to our Arts College specialism.
ACHIEVEMENT AND STANDARDS
- To build on significant progress made in 2007/8 at KS4 and tocontinue to raise attainment in Mathematics
- To improve the use of virtual learning software as a learning platform to help improve the quality of learning, and in particular, to aid revision.
- To ensure that targets for the three Specialist subjects are met and to continue to ensure that the school's Arts specialist status has a significant impact on raising attainment across the school as a whole.
- To raise the profile of literacy across the curriculum with a key focus on reading skills.
- To provide a broader level 3 offer to accommodate the range of learners now coming back into the Sixth Form and implement a new target setting model based on FFT data.
- To improve retention in the Sixth Form and reduce the number of people aged 17+ not engaged in education or employment
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AND WELL-BEING
- To continue to take action aimed at reducing the proportion of persistent absentees and the level of truancy. To link VOTAC and the school council so they are more aware of each others role.
- To further develop student voice to fully engage students in the learning process.
- To ensure our community development plan fully engages the local community
- To prepare for the introduction of Functional Skills within Diploma courses
QUALITY OF PROVISION
- To raise the quality of the learning environment to support Gifted and Talented students in and to develop the Foundation Learning Tier for students working towards Entry/Level 1
- To ensure Quality of Learning team impacts on learning through peer observation and coaching.
- To restructure the curriculum around a condensed KS3 (2 years) and an extended KS4 (3 years).
- To ensure that the Creative and Media diploma line is fully developed for implementation Sept. 2010 and to ensure Retail diploma passes from Gateway for 2011 delivery
- To ensure that the Every Child Matters agenda is embedded into the Curriculum.
- To embed and develop a new programme linked to Opening Minds and SEAL across years 7 and 8.
- To review current curriculum model to ensure all students have access to a broad Arts curriculum choice and to ensure participation targets are met for all specialists subjects
LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
- To ensure that moving from good to outstanding becomes an overarching theme across the school.
- To fully implement a new target setting model in place for individuals, departments and the school as a whole.
