Textiles

TextilesAll students study Textiles at Clacton County High School in Years 7 and 8. In Year 9 they start the GCSE course and are able to subsequently opt for continuing at both GCSE and A-Level. The Textiles department embraces all aspects of Design Technology, as well as Art.
Students are taught to value the work of a range of practitioners. These include painters, photographers, fashion designers, sculptors and those who work in a range of craft disciplines.
The foundation for all work is driven by researching these, artists, designers and crafts people. Students are taught to experiment as well as follow set tasks to explore a wide range of materials and processes. Staff enable them to select and make appropriate choices by combining their research with their practical skills.

Students are encouraged to have creative ideas, discuss their work and make suggestions on developing their practical outcomes. Staff focus on developing thought processes, opinions and understanding of textiles as a medium for expressive ideas.
A wide range of work is publically exhibited with the GCSE and A Level grades reflecting the continuing success of this vibrant department.
