Health & Social Care
Health and Social Care and Childcare are both taught at Key Stage 4 and 5, by some very experienced teachers.

Child Development GCSE

This course covers physical development of Children, Nutrition and Health, Intellectual, Social & Emotional Development of children in Year 10 and Family and Parenting, Preparation for Pregnancy and Birth and Community Support in Year 11. There are three tasks which require students to interview the public in Year 10 and a Child Study Health & Social Carein Year 10 and 11 as well as a terminal exam.


Health and Social Care Diploma and Subdiploma Level 3

• Individual needs including Health and Safety legislations
• Anatomy and physiology
• Safeguarding
• Communication and Rights
• Cultural diversity
• The Health and Social Care services

Both subjects involve core skills of independent study, pair work, group work, organisation, communication and motivation to enable students to complete the course successfully, but also prepare them for a career in this sector or further education. Students will also complete 50 hours of work experience on the Subdiploma and 100 hours of work experience on the Diploma.

Many past students have gone on to have successful careers in either field, or to study within the Health and Social Care sector at degree level.
